Snow business
February 2010 Email to a friend   Comment on this article
Onspot – the automatic tyre chain system used on emergency vehicles – is now being offered for gritters and other essential service trucks.

Snow businessAvailable from VBG Group, it comprises a cab-mounted electric switch that activates an air solenoid, which lowers a chain wheel that contacts the inside of the drive tyre.

Friction between the tyre and the rubber-covered chain wheel causes it to rotate, forcing the chains in front of the tyre.

Six lengths of chain spaced at 60-degree intervals ensure that there are always two chains between the tyre and road surface.
