Clean energy products supplier Acta has announced that independent validation of its onboard hydrogen enrichment system has taken place, and been successful.

Acta succeeds in fuel enrichment system evaluationsThe system, which is designed for diesel trucks, vans and passenger cars, was evaluated on a test bench, using a 7.2-litre Volvo Truck engine. The results yielded a equivalent net fuel saving of 17%.

Acta has developed its hydrogen enrichment system for diesel fuel, based upon water electrolyser technology. Acta chief executive Paolo Bert claims that its fuel enrichment promotes a cleaner and more efficient burn, resulting in higher power output, lower fuel consumption, and lower particulate emissions.

"The excellent test results and the evident commercial potential of our hydrogen fuel enrichment system is extremely encouraging," states Bert.

"We believe that our system will allow diesel vehicle operators to save money, reduce fuel consumption and lower their emissions. We expect to complete product development, including the electronic control system, over the next six months – with a commercial launch to the after-sales market by the end of 2010," he promises.

Bert also says he anticipates strong demand. "Once launched [we'll be] selling into a market that we estimate to be worth in the region of €8 billion, while promoting environmental and economic benefits," he says.
