In-flight food supplier Royal Blue Executive Services has taken delivery of a new Volvo FL 18-tonner to service its executive jet customers at Heathrow.

Royal Blue feeds execs with Volvo FL 18 tonnerThe FL 4x2 rigid truck went on the road on June 1 and is fitted with a scissor-lift refrigerated body and a 360º camera system that allows the truck to manoeuvre safely around large and small aircraft.

Royal Blue director of logistics Simon Carey explains that the driver needs to have a sense of exactly where the truck is "in three dimensions". Colliding with an aircraft wing or fuselage, he says, would be a very costly error.

"The Volvo FL is perfect for this job. As well as servicing aircraft at Heathrow, the truck is trunking to Stansted and Birmingham airports. It is a delight to drive, with a superb gearbox and, with 280hp, it pulls like a train."
