LEDs boost Ryder trucks’ uptime and productivity 25 November 2010

Ryder says it has seen worthwhile benefits from using LEDs in its vehicles' rear light clusters, during a trial across its contract hire fleet.

"LED lights fitted to our vehicles have demonstrated significant gains in uptime," comments Nigel Carr, Ryder's head of engineering services, who confirms that all new trucks ordered by Ryder will be specified with the lights as standard.

"With gloomy winter days, the greater durability and reliability of LEDs will not only improve safety, but the gains in vehicle uptime will provide noticeable benefits to our clients," continues Carr.

"Energy efficient LEDs have a lifetime rating of 100,000 hours, compared with just 800 hours for regular bulbs," he explains, indicating that for Ryder, they're effectively 'fit-for-life' items that also put less strain on his vehicles' batteries.

Ryder worked with Peterson Europe. "Following the successful trial programme, we are delighted to have been selected to supply LED rear lights for Ryder's future fleet requirements," comments Tony Jones, Peterson Europe's managing director.
