Chris Turner has been appointed head of operations, logistics for Geodis Calberson. Turner previously worked for DHL, Kuehne and Nagel and DB Schenker. He reports directly to Gary Hubbard, Geodis Calberson's director of logistics.

Dave Hughes has joined Wood Auto as accounts manager for the north east, with the task of growing sales of all Wood Auto's products to motor factors, fleet operators and local authorities.

The Road Haulage Association has appointed Nick Payne as regional director, midlands and western. Payne has been with the Association for five years, and will take over from current director, Mike Farmer, when he retires at the end of the year.

Stagecoach has confirmed several senior management appointments since its acquisition of bus operations in London. Mark Threapleton, will head up the new business, which has around 4,800 employees and operates 1,400 buses from 10 depots. Chris Bowles is now managing director Stagecoach Manchester, and Paul Southgate has been appointed managing director, Stagecoach North West.

Gerard Mann Commercial Vehicles, the West Midlands Mercedes-Benz dealer group, has confirmed Ray Armstrong as new dealer principal. He spent the last four years working for Gerard Mann Commercial Vehicles' parent company Inchcape, and most recently, ran several Toyota centres. However, Armstrong has also held senior positions in Ford car and van and Iveco dealerships.

Trainee truck technicians Darren Raines, Ben Watson and Chris Archer took the top honours at the DAF Apprentice of the Year competition held in Bristol. All three are enrolled on the three-year National Dealer Apprentice Programme, which is run at the DAF Trucks Centre of Learning at City of Bristol College.

Optare has made a number of board appointments as it prepares for market recovery and to grow the business based on its strategic alliance with Ashok Leyland. R Seshasayee (managing director of Ashok Leyland since 1998) and Dr V Sumantran (executive vice chairman of Hinduja Automotive) have been appointed as non-executive directors.
