The Freight Transport Association has unveiled an updated edition of its 'Van Drivers' Handbook'.

New van advice offered by the FTABilled as an "essential guide to ensuring the safe, legal and efficient operation of vans and light commercial vehicles", the handbook provides van drivers with a quick and easy reference.

Beyond helping drivers to stay on the right side of the law, the guide also provides practical advice and information on the daily operation of vehicles.

Topics covered include legal requirements, defensive driving, safe use of vehicles, drivers' hours and records, driving licences and offences, and speed limits.

This edition also includes a new section on towing trailers, and provides van drivers with advice on combination suitability, attaching the trailer, loading the combination and safe driving.

It also offers more information on rules about lights when parking at night, as well as guidance about managed and controlled motorways.
