Karen Dee has joined the FTA (I Freight Transport Association) as director of national and regional policy. "The association has a well-deserved reputation for political campaigning and it is exciting to join a team with such a full and varied national and regional agenda," says Dee, who was previously director of policy at the RHA (Road Haulage Association).

Hankook is seeking continued growth in the UK, with the appointment of Barrie Horrocks to the newly created role of UK sales director and David Thorp as UK sales manager commercial. The former commercial sales manager is now overseeing business development in both the commercial and car markets for Hankook. David Thorp takes over as UK sales manager commercial.

Michelin has appointed Mike Wilson, 61, as commercial director of its earthmover and industrial operations in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Wilson has been with Michelin for 37 years, starting as a sales representative. Meanwhile, Graham Karran has been promoted to the position of Michelin's retread sales manager, responsible for the sales and marketing of all Michelin's retread tyres in the UK. Karran, 44, will use his experience within the truck tyre sector to work with Michelin's Remix and Encore production sites in Stoke-on-Trent.

Continental Tyre Group has announced a new member to its UK and Ireland commercial vehicle sales team, 47-year old Mark Kerswill, who joins with immediate effect as truck sales manager. Kerswill joins Continental as truck sales manager with responsibility for the east midlands and north east of England.

Marcus Breitschwerdt has been named as the new president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK. He takes over from Wilfried Steffen, who is moving to a new role as Head of Daimler's business innovation division in Stuttgart.

Barry Beeston has been appointed fleet sales director for Nissan Motor (GB), replacing Andy Woodall who left the company. Beeston joined Nissan in 1991 as technical support controller and held several roles within the company before becoming national fleet operations manager in 2007.

MAN Truck &Bus UK has announced the sudden and unexpected death of John Ryan, the company's head of network development. Ryan had worked at MAN for 14 years, starting with ERF in 1997 in the position of sector manager, with responsibility for the development of sales in the truck rental and distribution industries.
