Bevan Group unveiled the first of its new breed of environmentally friendly Luton van bodies at the CV Show – promising a payload of more than 1,200kg and operating cost reductions.

Green Luton van body steals CV Show for BevanDubbed the Icon, it is aimed at the home delivery sector, and most noticeable is its streamlined, modular body, developed with aerodynamics experts from Cranfield University and Hatcher Components.

The first Icon is on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis cab, but it is also compatible with VW's Crafter and will be adapted for other vehicle models, including the Ford Transit.

Bevan's body panels – including moulded cab deflector and collar, side walls and roof – are manufactured in a lightweight and recyclable composite GRP.

The new body comes with a 'plug and play' lighting system having LED interior light and a lightweight shutter door. Alternatively, conventional hinged rear doors can be fitted, along with a roof-mounted wind diffuser.

Other options include a tail-lift, load restraints, reversing cameras and safety equipment for working at height.
