RATP cuts claims and fuel costs on MiX Telematics project 21 June 2012

Bus operator RATP London United (formerly Transdev) is reporting a significantly improved safety record, with the personal injury claim rate down 21%, since embarking on a programme of risk reduction with Mix Telematics.

Owen Kirchin, 'Drive Well' coordinator for RATP, explains that its scheme involves in-vehicle monitoring targeted at driver training, with the first MiX fleet management system installed back in August 2009, initially on 147 units at the company's Shepherd's Bush garage fleet.

"In the immediate programme post-launch period, we were encouraged to see personal injury claims reduce by 14 percent," he says. "Since then, we have been delighted at the manner in which the figure has continued to improve, as every personal injury claim has potentially significant consequences for the company."

Other benefits since, he explains, include a 10% improvement in fuel efficiency, a figure that has now been sustained over the longer term, due to a driver training programme developed in conjunction with data gathered from the fleet management system.

The reasons: RATP uses MiX Telematics' RIBAS (excessive revving, idling, braking accelerating, speeding) display, which alone contributed to a reduction of 30% in harsh acceleration and an 11% reduction in harsh braking.
