Engineering Manager Aberdeen role08 April 2019

Our lovely engineering teams need you…and so do our amazing customers!
Okay, so now we’ve grasped your attention with the sympathy vote, let’s get down to the detail of why we’d love you to join us as Engineering Manager in our Aberdeen Depot for Stagecoach North Scotland.

You’ve probably seen some of our 400 vehicles driving around North Scotland – from Aberdeen to Elgin, Inverness to Skye and everywhere in between – transporting our fantastic customers over 20 million miles every year!

Our customers rely on our services to get them to work, to the high street, to hospitals, to days away and nights out – and our engineering teams make sure our vehicles are in tip top condition to do just that. It’s a big team of fitters, coach builders, electricians and cleaners who do some incredible work to make this happen every day.

And that’s where you come in – to lead our fantastic teams, to be part of our family in Aberdeen working hard to achieve the 95% reliability of our services. And who knows, perhaps you can get us to the 100%?!

“What will I be doing?” we hear you cry!

You’ll be leading a team of professionals who are pretty nifty with a spanner or a mop – both of which are equally as important. Let’s face it, none of our customers want a dirty bus that works, or a clean one that doesn’t!

You’ll have the responsibility of supporting, advising and managing the team on a daily basis to maintain and repair our Aberdeen fleet of more than 100 buses and coaches.

It’s a really important role within our depot, so we’ll trust you to ensure vehicles are presented to the high standards that our customers want – and thus you’ll have autonomy over resource management…stock and people. That means you’ll be getting stuck into ordering, managing inventory, recruiting, training, health & safety…so variety will be aplenty!

And speaking of variety, we’re a multisite operation so you won’t just be staring at the same four walls every day!

Perhaps you’re happy sticking at Engineering Manager level and that’s fine by us, but if you do want to progress we’ll support you every step of the way. Next stop on the career ladder is Engineering Director – one of the most senior roles in our business. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside our current Director (Carl Thornborrow – he’s lovely and really good at what he does so you’ll get a lot from working with him!), gaining exposure to work which will develop your skills and experience to allow you to progress your career further.

It goes without saying that there are a couple of things we need in our prospective Engineering Managers…

You don’t have to come from a bus background (but we wouldn’t be put off if you did either!), but you will need to have worked in a related field – such as the truck / haulage industries in an engineering setting.

People management won’t be completely new to you either. You don’t have to be an existing manager, but you’ll need to be able to evidence of how you’ve managed teams, irrespective of their size.

So if you love working in engineering, have a passion for leading teams, and want to do both with the incredible Stagecoach family in Aberdeen, please apply today by emailing fiona.alexander@stagecoachbus.com your CV and a covering letter with details of how you will be successful in this role.
