Des Evans, formerly chief executive of MAN Truck & Bus UK, has stepped down from his post, due to illness. His duties will be performed by the board of directors until a successor is appointed. "Everyone involved with Des – be they customers, work colleagues or suppliers – will want to wish this larger-than-life character a speedy and full recovery," says Vince Welsh, MAN's UK director for aftersales.

Richard Burnett is the RHA's (Road Haulage Association) new chief executive. Burnett was formerly with Samworth Brothers and has also worked at Wincanton, TDG and Hays. He replaces Geoff Dunning, who has been in the role since March 2009. Meanwhile, Barry Hood is the new area manager for RHA's Midlands and Western Region. He was previously with DHL and Night Freight.

Kevin Byrne will succeed Paul Brooks as CILT international president-elect in January 2015, starting his presidency in January 2017. Byrne joined CILT in Ireland in 1992 as a chartered member and became CILT Ireland president in 2003.

Cartwright Group has appointed Barry Atherton as director of operations of its manufacturing facility. Atherton first joined Cartwright as a coach builder 24 years ago. He will be working closely with group managing director Mark Cartwright.

John Horn has retired as UK sales director at Optare, after 45 years in the industry, starting as an apprentice coach builder in Portsmouth. Tim Matthews, head of sales for UK and Ireland, takes over the reins.

Martin Williams is the new sales director at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London, reporting to regional managing director Peter Groome. Williams has been with Volvo Trucks for almost 10 years, starting as a used trucks sales executive based in Coventry.
