Tony Martyn has been appointed as engineering director for Wrightbus. He will reporting to group engineering director Brian Maybin. Martyn comes from Alexander Dennis, where he was group head of new product development. He also has more than 20 years of specialist commercial vehicle chassis and body design and manufacturing experience, gained in on and off highway sectors.

Meanwhile, Dr William Wright CBE, founder of bus manufacturer Wrightbus, has been crowned the 2014 Innovation Founder, an award celebrating the achievements of some of Northern Ireland's most successful entrepreneurs. The accolade, part of the Northern Ireland Science Park Connect Invent2014 awards, recognises distinction in founding, leading or building an eminent local technology or life sciences business.

Oil blender Morris Lubricants has reinforced its commitment to excellence by appointing Phil Saunders quality assurance manager. He was formerly with the Forensic Science Service.

Sarah Sillars OBE is to stand down as CEO of the engineering skills service Semta at the end of December this year, when chief operating officer Ann Watson will step into her shoes. Semta, which represents 138,000 companies with a combined annual turnover of over £300 billion in the engineering and advanced manufacturing sector, plays a pivotal role in ensuring that companies have the appropriate skills to satisfy increased level of demand in a growing market.

Michèle Dix, managing director of planning for Transport for London, has been awarded PTRC's Lifetime Achievement Award for her commitment to the profession. Sir Peter Hendy CBE describes her as 'the best transport planner in Britain'.

Carl zu Dohna has been appointed as brand director for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the UK. He succeeds Alex Smith, who assumes the position of brand director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars.
