FTA (Freight Transport Association) has elected Dave Rowlands, technical services director at Wincanton, as the next chairman of its influential National Road Freight Council. The council, which comprises members elected from the regional freight councils, directs FTA government policy. Rowlands is currently chair of FTA's West Midlands Regional Freight Council. He will take over from Eric Fisher of DS Smith. Road Freight Council also elected Vincent Brickley, of Tandem Transport, and Chris Hall, of Asda, as vice chairs.

Karen Crispe is to join the FTA next month as its commercial director. Currently managing director of Tachodisc and a non-executive director of the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), she will be responsible for sales and marketing.

David Slatcher has joined Isuzu Truck (UK) as network business manager. Responsible for developing new truck sales through the Isuzu truck dealers within the UK central region, he was previously with Iveco and Mercedes-Benz dealer groups, and prior to that, worked alongside fleet sales of DAF Trucks (UK).

Laura Bloch has been promoted to the new role of sales operations director at DAF, working alongside Mark Oldbury who continue as truck sales director focus on customer contact. Bloch was formerly manager of the Paccar Parts Distribution Centre, in Leyland.

Following the retirement of Phil Flanders, RHA's director for Scotland and Northern Ireland, the Road Haulage Association has announed Martin Reid as his successor. Reid was formerly with SELECT, the trade association for the electrical industry in Scotland. Meanwhile, Geraldine Quinn has been appointed area manager for Northern Ireland.

David Barlow is the new group commercial director at contract hire and fleet management specialist Prohire. Barolw hs held senior management positions with companies ranging from Hill Hireto Transamerica Leasing and Trailerent.

Giti Tire has strengthened its senior management team with the promotion of Matthew Mardle to the newly created position of European supply chain manager. Mardle was previously operations manager and will be responsible for product lifecycle management, forecasting and planning for GT Radial, Primewell and Runway tyres.

Hankook Tyre UK has appointed Nick Maltby franchise development manager following expansion of the Hankook Masters Programme. Maltby, who has 30 years' experience in the trade, joins existing franchise manager Ben Francis.
