Selected exhibitor profiles

■Launched in September 2017, the New CF multi-axle tipper and mixer chassis from DAF (stand OS4) offers up to 250kg additional payload, compared to previous models. A new compact exhaust creates extra chassis space for ancillary equipment. The DAF New LF range includes tipper chassis from 7.5 to 18 tonnes. A dedicated New LF ‘Construction’ 18-tonner features a raised front bumper with ground clearance of 320mm and an approach angle of almost 25º.

■Jost UK’s outdoor stand has relocated to the Majestic Lawns (MC01), and will be its largest ever, with a greater selection of client vehicles showcasing Edbro tipping cylinders. Inside, stand A5/A6 shows fifth wheel couplings and landing gear, Rockinger drawbar equipment, Tridec steering systems and Jost axles (engineered by Mercedes Benz).

■Renault Trucks (stands M14-16) will show off two Range T 6x2 tractor units. One is a lightweight 11-litre Range T460 6x2 with a mini mid-lift, said to be ideal for aggregate or liquid applications. This MML derivative is up to half a tonne lighter than the standard 6x2 mid-lift. The second – a 13-litre Range T520 6x2 tag axle tractor unit in Thompsons of York livery – has a 3,200mm wheelbase for manoeuvrability. Also showing is a Range C430 8x4 with an 11-litre engine and Wilcox insulated aggregate tipper body for cost-conscious operators.

■Scania has split its show presence into two. Stand M7-M9 showcases P- and G-series models from its new XT range. Both of them feature an all-new heavy-duty bumper that extends 150mm from the front of the cab, with an improved approach angle and reinforced ribbed rear-view mirrors. In the outside exhibition area, it will show the UK’s first low-entry Scania L-series model designed for urban environment applications, such as local distribution, waste and construction (with automatic kneeling, access is by a 440mm-high single step; without that feature, there are two steps). The L-series features three cab roof heights and choice of three power outputs from a 9-litre diesel.

■Thompsons (Hall A, stands 7,8,15) brings two new lightweight tipper bodies. The first is a radical all-steel design that saves some 350kg over its current steel model. The second is an aluminium alloy insulated body built by Thompsons Scotland. Later this year, it will inaugurate a fourth production facility in Blackburn, bringing the total number of group sites in the UK to ten. Other products at the show include an 8x4 side tipper with rear-mounted crane, 4x2 chassis fitted with a tarmac-carrying ‘hotbox’ and Charlton ‘SuperLite’ steel bodies in multiple mountings.
