We are now looking to recruit a Vehicle Maintenance Unit Manager to lead the VMU Team on a permanent basis

The Job

Reporting to the National Transport Controller the Vehicle Maintenance Unit Manager is responsible for leading the Vehicle Maintenance Unit to ensure that the VMU department operates effectively, providing the required service in a very large and complex FMCG operation

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure all maintenance carried out by the VMU conforms to statutory and safety standards
  • To ensure all maintenance work is carried out in an efficient and effective manner, in accordance with best practices, health and safety legislation and company policy.
  • To ensure the planned and preventative maintenance procedures are correctly adhered to and service targets are maintained.
  • To manage and motivate a workforce of multi skilled engineers.
  • Co-ordinate external contractors to ensure a high standard of maintenance.
  • To prioritise workflow depending on operational needs, timescales and urgency of requirements.
  • Benchmark service performance, productivity and cost base with other FMCG operations at regular intervals.
  • To ensure that all engineering KPI's are defined, understood, aligned to functional plans and actions in place to achieve continuous improvement.
  • To ensure that the correct resource and strategy is in place to deliver the site overhead and prime budgets.
  • To fully support the National Transport Controller and to hit all key annual objectives as specified in appraisals/reviews.
  • Accountable for VMU maintenance and engineering budgets and ensuring targets are met.
  • Drive VMU maintenance strategy through continuous improvements in efficiency and techniques playing a key role in driving Lean in Logistics.

Qualifications & Experience

  • To be qualified to a minimum of a HNC level within an Engineering discipline
  • Hold a current CPC
    Engineering experience at multiple levels including CDM, safety and project management.
  • Experience in running a commercial maintenance workshop
  • Be PC literate with extensive experience of Microsoft office
