Abacus counts on top-spec DAF XFs for future trucks 22 May 2015

Abacus Logistics says it has switched truck supplier since deploying two new Euro-6 DAF XF 460 FTG Super Space Cabs which are already delivering 9.3 mpg at 44-tonnes – more than 1.0 mpg better than its previous unnamed Euro 5 vehicles.

The top-spec DAF flagships are powered by 460bhp Paccar MX-13 engines, and Paul Carr, director of the Southampton-based container haulage operator, says it proves that big can be beautiful.

"Nine miles-per-gallon is a notable fuel milestone, particularly on our container work, and the figures speak volumes of the Paccar MX-13 motor," he says, adding that the firm is "mightily impressed".

The new trucks were supplied by local DAF dealer Adams Morey with five-year hire purchase funding from Paccar Financial.

Carr also says that, having installed DAF Telematics on both XFs, Abacus is now rolling out this web-based driver and vehicle monitoring system, based on Microlise, across its entire mixed-fleet of 25 artics.

"We put our two most experienced drivers into the new XFs and they are thrilled with their new Super Space Cabs," continues Carr.

"We will require some replacements later this year and ... DAF will be high on our shopping list, particularly if the funding package from Paccar Financial remains so competitive."

Brother, and fellow director, Peter Carr adds that DAF's and Admas Morley's support service has also been impressive.

"We haven't had the two new XFs very long," he says, "but the quality of service and the high level of customer support we're receiving would suggest that we're at the start of a very long relationship with DAF and Adams Morey."
