Abacus Logistics takes UK’s first New Generation MAN TGX 14 August 2020

Southampton’s Abacus Logistics has taken delivery of its first New Genera-tion MAN TGX tractor unit, the first unit of that truck model to be handed over in the UK.

The 44-tonne TGX 6x2, 26.510 tractor features the New Generation flagship GX cab and is specified with safety features including ESP, EBA, adaptive cruise control with Stop-Go, lane departure warning system and LED cornering lights.

Driver creature comforts include the fitment of MAN comfort steering, MAN advanced media system including satellite navigation, a multi-function steering wheel and MAN’s SmartSelect truck-optimised infotainment control. Dura-Bright aluminium wheels add to the tailored and professional appearance.

Abacus Logistics CEO Peter Carr observes: “As fuel amounts to around 30% of total vehicle running costs, having an efficient and clean vehicle is paramount.”

The truck is powered by the MAN Euro VI-D D26, 12.4 litre, 503bhp, six-cylinder engine that deliverers 2,600Nm from 930rpm. It also features a new low-friction drive axle that, through its long axle drive ratio, helps optimise fuel-efficiency to the tune of an eight percent saving when compared to previous Euro VI-C drivetrain.

Established in 2004 Abacus Logistics Ltd offers a variety of efficient, reliable and secure road freight services, including import and export container haulage, reefer services, express pallet distribution and storage. All vehicles have GPS tracking systems which delivers accurate information to customers about their goods location and delivery status.

“Our driver is very excited to be handed the keys to the first new generation TGX in the UK and seeing the telematics feedback, which will I’m sure support MAN’s eight percent MPG improvement,” concluded Carr.

The vehicle was sold by MAN, but supported by franchised dealership Harwoods Truck and Van Centre, Totton.

The new TGX tractors are covered by MAN’s three-year ComfortSuper R&M package and its warranty support package. The purchase of all six new vehicles were funded by MAN Financial Services.
