Abellio reports fast results from Freeway fleet management 18 March 2011

Public transport operator Abellio reports rapid benefits from a computerised fleet management system from Freeway Fleet Systems, which, it says, is improving the efficiency of its London and Surrey bus services.

Installed last year, the system is said to have started streamlining maintenance scheduling within a month – also eliminating paperwork and ensuring that the fleet was running smoothly, while also minimising running costs.

"Following Abellio's purchase of the London and Surrey public transport business from National Express, it was imperative that we had the system up and running as quickly as possible," explains Steve Perks, engineering director, Abellio.

"We were pleased to be able to go live within a month of installation," he adds.

The software helps identify bus problems and schedule routine jobs so that engineers can work more efficiently with full access to vehicle histories and maintenance information.

Perks says it is giving full visibility of fleet maintenance activities, which has enabled Abellio's engineering team to manage its workload across its five workshops.
