Airedale has the right chemistry with Schmitz trailer03 July 2014

Chemical manufacturer Airedale Chemical has acquired its first Schmitz Cargobull trailer, an aluminium fixed-roof curtainsider with special adaptations for distributing its products.

The West Yorkshire-based business is using the trailer to transport food-based chemicals across the UK and the latest acquisition joins its 20-strong fleet. It is pulled by a 510bhp DAF XF Superspace.

Graham Bird, Airedale's transport manager, says the company decided to evaluate a Schmitz trailer this time: "What we are particularly impressed by is that the chassis is galvanised and bolted, which will make it easy to carry out any necessary repairs," he says.

The trailer has several customised components to ensure safe and efficient transport of chemical goods.

It is equipped with an anti-theft rope through the curtain buckles, two roof-mounted restraint straps, a fire extinguisher fitted to the front bulkhead and a folding HAZCHEM plate for identification.

Bird says the company will consider further acquisitions from Schmitz Cargobull, and that the ordering process was simple and efficiency: "One call sorts it all."
