Animal feed business has appetite for Euro 6 Volvo FH14 May 2014

Animal feed manufacturer Davidson Brothers (Shotts) has extended its 34-strong fleet with a Volvo FH Euro 6 tractor.

Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the latest arrival features a standard roof sleeper cab on a 6x2 mid-lift chassis, and is powered by a D13K-500 engine producing 500bhp.

For the first time, the company – based near Motherwell – has opted not to service in house and, instead, has taken a three-year Volvo Gold R&M contract, as William Davidson, operations director, explains: "With the new Euro 6 technology it seemed more logical to take full advantage of planned servicing, technician monitoring of the truck via online communication and the 100% uptime promise of the Volvo Gold Contract."

The tractor features Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels to maximise payload figures, along with a twin output power take off (PTO) unit, fitted by Priden Engienering.

"The Priden PTO makes our new Volvo FH-500 flagship a complete all-rounder," says Davidson. "It can now haul a standard tipper trailer, a bulk blower and one of our walking floor trailers or molasses tankers."

The FH will be in operation for ten years, on farm deliveries across Scotland the North of England for six years, before moving to seasonal goods inwards work.
