The vehicles were chosen, says AO, after Fraikin provided “astute recommendations” based on its knowledge of the market and latest technological advances.
“We’ve always relied on a tried and tested manufacturer for our tractor units with no issues, but Fraikin was able to show us the benefits that some competitor models could offer, and ultimately that led to us making the switch to Mercedes-Benz,” says Stuart Haynes, commercial director at AO.
The 4x2 tractors join a 500-strong mixed fleet, and are based at five of AO’s depots around the UK.
New features on the latest Actros include a MirrorCam system, which replaces the exterior rear-view mirrors, helping to improve visibility for the driver as well as lowering fuel consumption.
“Being able to lean on Fraikin’s expertise has allowed us to start building a more efficient fleet, something that has been complemented by the flexible maintenance package they developed for us – all work is scheduled in advance, which means we can rely on increased vehicle uptime,” adds Haynes.
“It really is a deal that has delivered on all counts.”
This latest contract follows the first full-service contract hire between AO and Fraikin early last year, for 135 Renault Master vans for the retailer’s home delivery fleet.
