AR Demolition orders first UK Volvo FH16-750 truck 20 October 2011

AR Demolition has placed an order with Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia's Bardon Dealerpoint for what will be the first FH16-750 to be delivered in the UK and Ireland.

The Carlton, Leicestershire-based company currently operates two trucks – an FM with Boughton hookloader material-handling equipment and an FH tractor unit for low loader and bulk trailer duties.

Owner/managers Andrew Thompson and Richard Dolman explain that they also operate specialist plant and machinery, including a fleet of Volvo excavators, together with crushers and power screens.

According to Thompson, the FH16-750 will provide the firm with increased flexibility when it comes to moving its own plant and machinery. It will also be available to provide a low loader service for other companies.

A new low-loader trailer is being purchased for use with the new 6x4 double drive Volvo, which has been specified with Volvo's latest I-Shift automated gearbox and retarder, together with a transmission oil-cooler.

He says the company will also be trialling Volvo's Dynafleet telematics system.

"We were looking at the big picture when we decided to order the FH16-750," says Thompson. "From the calculations, we expect it to be at least as good as, or better on, fuel than other trucks with less horsepower."

Dolman agrees, making the point that, at 3,550 Nm, the massive torque of the D16G 16-litre engine in his new FH16-750, coupled with the truck's high specification, future proofs the company's transport capability, in terms of services it can offer as well as efficiency and flexibility.
