Arriva Transport Solutions delivers smoother service with Masternaut17 November 2014

Non-emergency ambulance company Arriva Transport Solutions (ATSL) is reporting a 92% reduction in driving events – such as harsh braking, acceleration and cornering – six months after implementing the Masternaut telematics solution.

Using the Masternaut Connect platform, ATSL is monitoring driver behaviour using the system's ecoDrive module in its 480-strong ambulance fleet.

ATSL transports 4,000 vulnerable and often elderly patients to and from their medical appointments every day, so patient comfort is a priority, as is fuel efficiency.

An in-cab display alerts drivers to events that indicate poor driving, giving them immediate feedback to improve vehicle handling and safety. ATSL also uses the information to help decide which drivers need additional training.

As well as delivering a smoother service for patients, a 70% reduction in vehicle idling has boosted fleet fuel efficiency.

"Our drivers are highly skilled and undergo extensive training for their role but they are now more aware than ever of their driving behaviour and how this can positively, or negatively impact patient experience," says Steve Law, ATSL's head of fleet and estates.

"This wouldn't have been possible without the in-depth information provided by Masternaut Connect, which is helping us to track assets and give detailed reports on driver behaviour criteria."
