Arthur Spriggs’ new Actros deal features first UK rigid 07 September 2012

Arthur Spriggs & Sons has taken delivery of what Mercedes-Benz says is the country's first rigid variant of the Mercedes-Benz new Actros.

It's part of a deal for six Mercedes-Benz trucks, all powered by the 450bhp Euro 6 engine mated to the PowerShift 3 automated transmission, and all delivered via Surrey and Sussex dealer Rossetts Commercials.

The new rigid has been fitted with a curtainside body by Ross Gordon Commercial Bodyworks, and is a 2545 ENA model – the new ENA suffix denoting a single-wheeled tag axle.

New Actros 6x2 rigids can also be specified as DNA variants, with twin-wheeled tag axles. This truck has the flat-floored BigSpace cab is also equipped with air-conditioned seats.

As for the New Actros tractor units, they're all are 4x2 models and plated for operation at 40 tonnes gvw. Three have aerodynamic StreamSpace cabs, the others being ClassicSpaces.

The new 26-tonner rigid will be used for general deliveries from the company's base in Tewkesbury.

"It's an absolutely marvellous truck. The fuel returns are already good and getting better by the week," declares Chris Spriggs, director of operations at Arthur Spriggs, who has also seen the first of its new tractor units arrive on the fleet, too.

"Our New Actros are everything we hoped they would be. We were looking for an improvement in fuel consumption and they've delivered from day one," he adds.

The New Actros trucks still to be delivered – two more 1845 ClassicSpaces, another 1845 StreamSpace and a 6x2 2551 with 510hp engine and range-topping GigaSpace cab – will all line up alongside the rigid on the operator's general fleet.
