Arthur Whiteside retires from Alexander Dennis29 August 2019

Bus and coach maker Alexander Dennis has announced that Arthur Whiteside, managing director for UK sales, is retiring at the end of this month.

Whiteside has spent more than five decades in the automotive sector, starting as a truck mechanic and moving through various sales roles for Ford and DAF. He spent several years at Renault, becoming the manufacturer’s head of truck sales in the mid 1990s.

He joined Alexander Dennis (ADL) in 2005 as aftermarket director, moving to UK sales director four years later. The company’s statement says Whiteside “led his team to achieve and sustain leadership of the UK bus market, with a market share of over 50%”.

Colin Robertson, ADL’s CEO, says Whiteside’s contribution “cannot be underestimated”, adding: “He will be greatly missed by colleagues, customers and the wider industry. We wish Arthur a long and very happy retirement.”

ADL says Whiteside will continue to support the business as it restructures the UK sales operation.
