AS Watson moves fleet to Mercedes-Benz 04 March 2010

AS Watson, the parent company of Superdrug and Savers, has shifted its entire fleet of vehicles to Mercedes-Benz.

Steve Zandi, logistics director at AS Watson, says the move was made in an attempt to increase efficiency throughout the company – noting that the 71 units already in production are showing signs of meeting its internal targets.

The majority of the new vehicles will be 4x2 Axor 1840LS tractor units, with high-roofed sleeper cabs and automatic transmissions. The remainder of the fleet order covers 18 box-bodied rigids – 17 18-tonne Axors and one 10-tonne Atego.

Zandi says Merceds dealer Intercounty Truck & Van was also key to the order. The dealership will take on vehicle maintenance at AS Watson's two principal sites in Dunstable and Pontefract, where it will also be responsible for 180 trailers.

"The arrangements for maintenance of the fleet were every bit as important as the vehicles themselves, and the package put together by the team from Mercedes-Benz and Intercounty Truck & Van took this into account," comments Zandi.

The new fleet will be responsible for more than 2,500 deliveries per month to a total of 1,100 Superdrug and Saver stores.
