ATF lane opens at Orwell’s £1m Newmarket site26 April 2016

DVSA inspectors have begun carrying out truck MOT tests at the new authorised testing facility (ATF) at Orwell Truck & Van’s Newmarket site.

The Mercedes-Benz dealer opened the £1m site in February and truck MOTs are now offered every Tuesday from 7.30am – Orwell expects to add extra days as demand grows.

The new workshop is three times larger than Orwell’s previous facility, on the same estate, and it can now offer truck MOT and tachograph services for the first time.

The first vehicle to undergo an MOT – and pass first time – was a 6x2 Actros 2543 drawbar rigid belonging to medical equipment supplier Getinge Group.

Getinge also runs a 12-tonne Atego and a Sprinter van, and transport manager Mark Chennells says he’s delighted with the new facility.

“Having been prepared by Orwell, our trucks were previously taken to Downham Market for MOT testing, so the opening of its new ATF bay means we’ll now get them back a lot more quickly,” he says.

“Our Actros is now more than 15 years old, yet it still runs regularly down to Toulouse and continues to be very reliable. This speaks volumes for the quality of Orwell Truck & Van’s service.”

Orwell also undertakes MOT tests on vans and passenger-carrying vehicles in the Class 4, 5 and 7 categories at its Newmarket dealership.
