Autologic Holdings appoints Scania as service provider01 March 2010

Autologic Holding's Doncaster Vehicle Maintenance Unit is to be managed and operated by Scania (Great Britain) from today.

Simon Knight, Autologic's head of operations for fleet and planning, says that the Swedish truck manufacturer is taking on all maintenance responsibilities for his fleet of 280 drawbar trucks and trailers. That includes all LOLER testing on lifting decks, but excludes tyre fleet management.

"We have an extremely complex fleet maintenance requirement, which places high demands on suppliers, as it calls for a wide range of capabilities and skills," explains Knight.

"Until now, our maintenance has been outsourced to a number of suppliers, but this ties up a great deal of [our] management time and resource, so we decided to seek a single supplier for a bumper-to-bumper solution instead.

"Achieving this, however, proved elusive until we entered into discussions with Scania, which has provided repair and maintenance for us on a localised basis. [Its] ability to deliver a high-quality total transport solution backed by a commitment to maximise our uptime – which will be realised by introducing seven-day working at the Doncaster site – led to the agreement."

Scania is providing 18 technicians, who will work in rotating shifts, while other staff are allocated to deal with the administrative side.
