Axis charts a 20% rise in fuel economy with telematics10 November 2014

Property maintenance and refurbishment business Axis Europe is reporting a 20% boost to fuel economy across its 241-strong fleet, five months after implementing the TomTom Telematics' Webfleet system.

The Croydon-based business is using driver behaviour monitoring tools to support a performance improvement programme.

The move has helped cut fuel expenditure, and reduced servicing and maintenance costs.

An OptiDrive indicator combines fuel efficiency information with speeding, idling, harsh steering and braking data, and scores drivers out of 10.

These scores have been used by Axis to create league tables to motivate operatives to drive more carefully.

Helen Craig, head of sustainability and facilities at Axis Europe, describes it as "a massive achievement".

"Without TomTom Webfleet, we wouldn't be able to measure our success so accurately," she says. "We have already exceeded our 5% improvement target for the year."

Axis says the system is also enabling it to respond faster to urgent requests for assistance, improving customer service.
