Axor investment key to A&L’s new recycling centre08 September 2010

Having spent close to £10 million on a new recycling centre, Asset & Land Management has now invested in six Mercedes-Benz Axors to operate six days a week on the site.

The trucks – three 32-tonne hookloaders and three 18-tonne skiploaders – were sourced through Southfield Commercials, while the chassis were supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealer Enza, which is servicing them at its Trafford Park workshop. The hookloading and skiploading equipment comes courtesy of Manchester-based Hyva UK.

A&L Group managing director Barry Kilroe explains that its eight-wheeled Axor 3236s were specified with Hyvalift 32 hooklift gear and Hyva Autosheeting systems. These vehicles carry bins with 20- and 40-cubic yard capacities, used to collect waste from commercial customers.

Meanwhile, on its Axor 1824Ks the company went for hub reduction back axles for strength and durability, and steel front bumpers. These also feature Autotrans automated transmissions for easier operation, while the long telescoping arms make it easier for A&L's drivers to pick up and drop their eight cubic yard skips.

Kilroe says he went with the Mercedes-Benz-Hyva combination, because of the reputation of both for reliability and versatility.

"Their strong brand images also compliment our own high-profile operation perfectly, and we confidently expect these vehicles to prove efficient and cost-effective to run over the years to come," says Kilroe.
