Bathroom supplier taps into fuel efficiency with new Sprinters09 December 2013

Designer bathroom firm Crosswater has become one of the first UK operators to take the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, adding three Sprinter 313 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY to its 30-strong fleet.

As well as a new look, with sculpted bonnet, a wedge-shaped radiator grille and angular headlights, the latest Sprinter delivers 7% better fuel efficiency than the outgoing model, according to Mercedes-Benz.

Other BlueEfficiency options can improve this by a further 6%, giving up to 44.4mpg – which went down well with Crosswater logistics director Wayne Lobley.

"As well as raising the bar in terms of safety, our latest Sprinters will also help us to achieve our fuel-saving targets," comments Lobley.

"All our vehicles are fitted with speed limiters set at 70 mph, while we also equip them with tracking systems that highlight incidents of erratic driving and harsh braking," he continues.

"We also operate a bonus scheme that rewards the best drivers."

A notable safety feature on the new Sprinter is Crosswind Assist, which detects sudden strong gusts of wind and helps to prevent the van drifting out of its lane by applying brakes on one side of the vehicle.

Other options include Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Highbeam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist.

The vans were supplied by dealer Sparshatts of Kent and taken on a Charterway contract hire from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.

Crosswater is soon to move to a new, purpose-built headquarters near its current site in Dartford, which will have 100,000 sq ft of warehousing and 10 loading docks designed to accommodate its Sprinters.
