Bedfords picks up value with Iveco Stralis Hi-Way01 September 2014

Logistics business Bedfords has ordered 47 new Iveco trucks for its 100-strong fleet – 39 Euro 6 Stralis Hi-Way tractors and eight Euro 6 Eurocargo rigid trucks.

The Stralis Hi-Way (AS440S46TX/P) tractor units will be delivered on the new '64' plate, and are joined by seven 18-tonne Eurocargo rigids and one 7.5-tonner.

The 6x2 Stralis Hi-Way was selected after trials revealed lower operating costs than with other marques, according to Lee Nichol, Bedfords' business improvements director.

"The trials clearly showed that the Hi-Way, with the lowest fuel consumption in its class and impressive reliability, will ensure we achieve the value we are looking for from our investment," states Nichol.

Leased through Iveco Capital and supplied by dealer Northern Commercials, the Birstall, West-Yorkshire based operator ordered the vehicles as part of a fleet upgrade programme.

Each of the Stralis trucks is powered by a Cursor 11 engine, with up to 460bhp available between 1,500 and 1,900 rpm, and 2,150 Nm of torque between 925 and 1,500 rpm.

They also include a new function, the 'super engine brake', which uses an exhaust throttle valve to improve engine performance by up to 30% compared with previous models.
