Bespoke green trailers added to Tradeteam’s fleet15 November 2010

Drinks distributor Tradeteam reports that it has improved its fleet's fuel efficiency, thanks to a bespoke teardrop trailer design, developed in conjunction with Don-Bur.

As well as a teardrop shaped roof, the trailer, measuring 13.7m x 2.55m, has tapered sides for improved aerodynamics, and high-tech load restraints and reinforced flooring. Ticking the health and safety box, the trailer also has a Safe Suzie ground coupling device, a joint development between Don-Bur and DHL.

Results from a six-month trial recorded average fuel savings of more than five per cent, compared with standard trailers, according to Chris Fleck, engineering operations manager at Tradeteam.

"Anything we can do to reduce carbon emissions, while making the job as easy and as safe as possible for our drivers is a must," comments Fleck.

"The new teardrops achieve all three of these objectives. We worked very closely with Don Bur on this project and were incredibly impressed by the performance of the specially manufactured Teardrop prototype," he adds.

Tradeteam has since taken delivery of 64 units that have now been integrated into its existing primary fleet.
