BJS Home Delivery expands heavy truck fleet with ten Volvo FH tractors02 January 2019

West Midlands-based BJS Home Delivery has expanded its transport business with ten new Volvo FH tractor units, ordered after positive performance from the operator’s first Volvo trucks, delivered last April.

Supplied by dealer Hartshorne Motor Services, of Walsall, the new Globetrotter-cabbed additions are powered by the D13K Euro VI engine producing 494bhp, driving through the I-Shift automated transmission.

The trucks have 6x2 pusher axles, air-actuated sliding fifth wheels, and front steel and rear air suspensions. They are specified with Volvo’s Drive+ and Single Bed living packages, plus 33-litre refrigerators.

The new arrivals take the BJS heavy truck fleet to 21, along with a large fleet of vans. The FH-500s will pick up bulk collections from suppliers, delivering to one of three BJS depots, plus they will be used on general hire and reward haulage duties.

“Our first batch of Volvo trucks entered service back in April and it’s ‘so far; so good’. I’m really happy with their performance levels and exceptional fuel economy figures,” says Gareth Pritchard, BJS transport manager.

“Our trucks average around 110,000 kilometres per year and we’re also comparing Volvo’s Dynafleet management system to our existing tracking and telematics programme,” concludes Gareth.

The ten FH trucks are the first in the fleet to sport BJS Home Delivery’s new roadmap-style livery.
