Boughey Distribution starts Euroliner trials 16 April 2013

Cheshire-based Boughey Distribution is putting its first Schmitz Cargobull Euroliner, equipped with the new FIXStrap proprietary load securing system, to the test.

Paul Brimelow, Boughey's group fleet engineer, says he will be monitoring the trailer's performance as part of the firm's 280-strong trailer fleet over the coming months.

"The Euroliner costs less to buy than a traditional UK-spec trailer; its lighter [approximately 500kg less than a standard UK curtainsider], which means carrying capacity is greater; and we expect it to hold its residual value better," comments Brimelow.

"If the Euroliner and this new load securing system perform as well as we hope it will, we'll look at buying more in the future."

2013 is the sixth year of Boughey purchasing trailers from Schmitz Cargobull, with this latest addition marking the 90th to join the fleet. It will be used for UK distribution, primarily carrying ambient groceries such as canned food and beverages to major multiples nationwide.

The FIXStrap system (developed with NWE Network Engineering) comprises 13 pairs of straps attached to bungee cords on the roof, which spring out of the way when not in use. When required, they can be reached by the driver and used to secure loads to the deck on both sides without the driver throwing the strap across the load, or climbing over it.

Schmitz Cargobull's S.CS Universal accommodates up to 34 Euro pallets, while meeting the EN 12642 (Code XL), which ensures the trailer will retain its cargo in the event of an incident.

To ensure uniformity with the rest of the fleet, Boughey specified an optional false front bulkhead in the trailer to enable flush loading in line with traditional curtainsiders.
