Brenntag goes for safety and service with Volvo FM fleet 03 May 2016

Safety, value for money and service were the clinchers in Brenntag UK & Ireland ordering 12 Globetrotter-cabbed, FM-460 tractor units from dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich.

“Logistics is a big part of what we do, so sustainability is a very important factor,” comments Fred Worle, operations director at the NW England based specialty, bulk and packaged chemical distribution firm.

“Volvo’s core values in the areas of safety and environmental care align with those of Brenntag UK & Ireland, which helped influence our purchase of these 12 tractor units.”

“Other key factors ... were that, in our opinion, Volvo offered value for money and the fact that we have had a positive experience of service and serviceability with the existing fleet of Volvo trucks.”

These 3.9 metre wheelbase ADR type 6x2 tractors were all specified with Volvo’s 13-litre DK13 engine rated at 460bhp and driving through an I-Shift gearbox configured with Long Haul fuel and economy software.

They also have Volvo Engine Brake + which delivers up to 375kW of retardation, to maximise deceleration efficiency on tanker operations.

As for the cab, each tractor unit has upgraded communications, a forward facing and side view camera system, as well as additional driver comfort options.

Maintenance is to be carried out overnight and at weekends by Thomas Hardie Commercials, Middlewich on a Volvo R&M contract.
