Brewer pulls the fuel savings with MAN drawbar22 July 2014

Brewer and pub retailer Marston's has taken delivery of its first MAN TGS 26.400 6x2 drawbar unit – and is already reporting fuel savings of a staggering 33%.

The 44-tonne gtw combination features Don-Bur's patented Teardrop rigid body and trailer design, which deliver an aerodynamic profile to promote fuel efficiency.

The result: the vehicle is returning an average of 10mpg, compared to 7.5mpg with its previous (unnamed) truck.

Marston's worked with Don-Bur and MAN engineers on the specification, with a particular focus on aerodynamics, including cab-mounted Airtabs to promote efficient airflow around the vehicle.

"This is the most powerful vehicle we've ever acquired for our retail fleet," comments Eric Smith, logistics operations manager, north, at Marston's.

"However, more power doesn't mean more fuel, and we are delighted with initial fuel returns. Compared with our last vehicle, the savings potential is substantial. We're certainly going to look at introducing more MANs into the fleet."

Marston's also says MAN's "robust" purchase package represented the best overall value for money.
