Bridgestone turns up the pressure with mobile nitrogen service17 June 2015

Bridgestone is now offering a mobile nitrogen inflation service for commercial vehicles which, it says, will reduce natural pressure loss by a third.

The company has teamed up with Pneumatic Components to offer the compressed air alternative as part of the Total Tyre Care service. The nitrogen is delivered through commercial nitrogen generators, now standard equipment on new Bridgestone audit service van fleet.

Bridgestone is promising better tyre inflation, wear and eventual fuel economy figures as a result.

"Nitrogen is a larger molecule than oxygen, which means that it is less likely to permeate between the rubber molecules, resulting in better pressure maintenance," says Paul Sheehan, partner manager for the tyre manufacturer.

"Filling tyres with a nitrogen-rich mix can reduce the natural pressure loss from the tyre by around a third. The advantages of this are longer lasting maintenance of the correct pressure."

He adds: "We are really excited to be able to offer a mobile nitrogen inflation option to Bridgestone fleet customers and we are confident that interest will be high, and we would love to hear from more fleet operators who are interested in trialling the benefits of nitrogen for themselves."
