Brinor International builds on Volvo tractor unit fleet 02 March 2012

Brinor International Shipping & Forwarding has replaced two of its tractor units with new Volvo FH-460 4x2s.

Transport manager Gill Thomas says that making that choice wasn't just about the price, but also the firm's existing relationship with the local dealer Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, in Ipswich.

That organisation's workshops were already servicing all makes of Brinor International's trucks, and had also retrofitted particulate filters to several non-Volvo Euro-3 engined trucks to ensure compliance with the London Low Emission Zone.

Another factor, says Thomas, was the reliability of a pair of 2007 registered three-axle tractor units, which entered service with the company 18 months ago.

"We looked at all options before we bought the two new FHs," she says, "Including buying used trucks, as the 2007 registered units have proved very reliable. The dealership is nearby ... coupled to which, the deal offered on the two new FHs was very good.

"It also helps that the people at the Volvo dealership are good communicators and keep us informed when our trucks are in their workshops."

The two new low-height FH-460s are equipped with I-Shift automated transmissions and Globetrotter XL cabs. They will be used primarily on the continent, operating at 40 tonnes gcw.
