Buntons builds modern fleet with Mercedes-Benz Arocs28 July 2016

Plant hire and groundworks business Buntons has taken delivery of three Mercedes-Benz Arocs, which now join eight more of the same model in its fleet.

Supplied by dealer Northside Truck & Van, the Bradford-based operator’s latest additions are all 8x4 Arocs 3243s – two tippers and one tipper-grab, which is fitted with a Palfinger Epsilon crane and clamshell bucket.

All are powered by 10.7-litre, 428bhp straight-six engines driving through PowerShift 3 automated transmissions. Fitted with heavy-duty steel bodies by Boweld, they still offer a 19,300kg payload.

Key to the appeal of the construction chassis for Buntons are its payload and popularity with drivers, along with the service from the dealer.

“We have our own workshop so look after the routine inspections and maintenance in house,” says director Rob Hall. “But the trucks go back to Northside for any warranty issues – the dealer is on our doorstep and the work is carried out overnight, which means we don’t incur any downtime.”

He adds: “The Arocs is right up there with the best in terms of fuel efficiency.”

Buntons’ policy is to replace vehicles after two years. “This means that while the trucks are in service we’re always covered by the manufacturer’s hassle-free warranty,” Hall says. “The residual values are strong, too. We’ve stood down three Arocs so far – two went back to Northside in part-exchange against new vehicles and we sold the third privately.”
