Bus operator illuminated by benefits of Michelin’s tyre management10 February 2016

Bus operator Blackpool Transport has renewed its tyre management programme with Michelin Solutions for a further five years.

The Effitires contract is a pence-per-mile (ppm) arrangement, covering Blackpool Transport’s 38 midibuses, 24 full-size single-deck buses and 73 double-deckers.

A 10-vehicle reserve fleet is also covered under the contract, as are Leyland Olympian open-topped and Leyland Atlantean AN68 buses, part of the operator’s heritage fleet.

“We’ve enjoyed a close working relationship with Michelin for many years, and appreciate the value for money the premium fitments provide,” explains Bob Mason, Blackpool Transport’s director of delivery.

“The company works closely with us to ensure we get maximum longevity, safety and durability from our Michelin rubber, which also helps keep tyre-related downtime consistently low across the fleet,” he adds.

Michelin Solutions handles all tyre-related matters for the bus company, including carrying out fleet-wide tyre safety inspections.

Blackpool Transport fits its tyres in-house – a variety of Michelin urban bus tyres. Michelin Remix tyres are also fitted as part of the deal.
