BYD switches electric focus to Europe31 January 2019

Chinese manufacturer BYD has unveiled its first three all-electric commercial vehicles for the European fleet market.

At an event in Spain last week, the manufacturer launched two trucks and one van: the T6, a 7.5-tonne truck (pictured); the Q1M yard tractor, a 46-tonne gcwr designed for airport and port operators; and the T3 van.

The company has chosen Spain as its pilot market, and says this is the start of its European roll-out.

BYD also says these three models are the pioneers for a full range of all-electric light and heavy commercial vehicles for the European market “in the coming years”.

Isbrand Ho, managing director of BYD Europe, described it as “a highly significant step” for the company.

He pointed out that BYD electric products have already “cemented their position” in the taxi, city bus and forklift markets, adding: “We are confident that this fourth product range – etrucks – will also win sales success even though the European CV sector is intensely competitive.”
