Cabin filter upgrade removes tiny particulate matter23 May 2014

Filter manufacturer Mann+Hummel has developed a new range of cabin filters claimed to remove almost 100% of even the tiniest particles, which are particularly hazardous to health.

According to the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA), the smaller the particle, the greater the risk to health. Smaller particles penetrate deeper into the airways, it says, and cannot be exhaled.

Particles with an aerodynamic diameter of less than 2.5 microns can penetrate deep into the lungs, and ultra-fine particles can even enter the bloodstream.

Mann's cabin filters protect vehicle occupants, and include the CUK 26 009 combined filter and the CU 26 009 particle filter. Particle and combined filters are provided to the aftermarket under the Mann-Filter brand.

The company recommends that filters should be replaced annually, or every 15,000km, to maintain air purity.
