Calor invests in people through irtec license 19 March 2013

Calor Gas says it is using the technician licensing scheme irtec to establish a clear path to lifelong learning for its vehicle technicians.

The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) supplier – which operates a mixed fleet of more than 1,000 commercial vehicles, tankers and trailers, supported by a network of workshops – partnered with Manchester College assessment centre last year (2012).

Calor's Vehicle Engineering Services department says that, since then, all 35 vehicle technicians have had the opportunity to gain irtec accreditation.

"At Calor we have long known that we have some of the most experienced and competent technicians working for us," comments Iain Carr, national vehicle engineering manager for Calor Gas.

"Now, through irtec accreditations, we are able to prove it... Calor considers irtec to be a vital part of our overall training strategy," he continues.

"As a renewable licence achieved through individual assessment, irtec measures our technicians' current competence and training needs, leaving no chance to rest on our laurels," explains Carr.

"Coupled with manufacturer training, it is an effective mix, providing a multi-layer approach to professional development."
