Capital conversion of Ford Transit is exempt from congestion charge16 December 2015

There is a boost for operators considering a move to ultra-low emission vehicles, with the news that ULEMCo’s conversion of a Ford Transit to dual fuel has been approved by Transport for London for a 100% congestion charge discount.

A converted 2.2-litre Ford Transit was tested and exceeded TfL’s requirements for emissions of 75g/km or better – the hydrogen-diesel conversion achieved 59g/km.

The test, witnessed by the VCA, also showed improved air quality measures: 77% better on particulates; 78% better on CO; 14% better on NOx and 6% better on THC (unburned hydro carbon).

Eligibility for the congestion charge discount will apply to any vehicles of the same engine/type converted by ULEMCo, subject to TfL’s annual confirmation.

“As far as we know, this is the first vehicle in this type (1.8 to 3.5 tonnes) that meets both air quality and carbon emission requirements in London,” says Amanda Lyne, CEO of ULEMCo.
