Carlsen Baltic displays cool eutectic system at IAA17 September 2014

Bodybuilder Carlsen Baltic has launched a 3.5-tonne multi-compartment, multi-temperature body that uses a low-carbon, eutectic refrigeration system.

Aimed at the temperature-controlled grocery home delivery market – the body has three temperature zones: -36°C, +5°C and +12°C.

Temperatures can be adjusted to each operator's needs and the eutectic system ensures constant temperatures in the van.

Long-term customer Swedish business Mat på Jobbet has established a London operation, with sister company Convini Food Solutions, to deliver food and drink to workplaces.

Convini specified the body on a Volkswagen T5 chassis with Freno frame.

Managing director Christopher Pedersen says: "When the doors are opened frequently, it is important to ensure the temperature in each compartment remains constant – particularly on a hot day.

"The Carlsen Baltic system is absolutely superior to any type of air-blown, diesel system because there is never a variation in load temperature."

Other selection criteria were low maintenance, as well as quiet and emission-free operation. The company achieves lower running costs and fewer breakdowns than with a traditional diesel system. Vehicle service is provided locally by Pulse Refrigeration.

Carlsen Baltic will be demonstrating this and other vehicles on its stand at IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover (25 September to 2 October 2014).
