Carntyne ramps up participation in LST trial03 December 2014

Bulk liquid and packaging logistics business Carntyne Transport has taken delivery of a further five longer semi-trailers (LSTs), taking its total to 15.

The Glasgow-based operator is participating in the government's 10-year LST trail and the latest additions, supplied by SDC Trailers, are 15.65m long and in operation on Carntyne's contract with Nampak Plastics Europe.

"The lightweight, high-cube nature of the products being transported is ideal for these longer trailers, as weight is not a concern," says David Paterson, Carntyne's managing director.

Nampak worked with Carntyne on the trailer specification, which includes air vents and roof modifications to prevent heat build up.

"Being able to work in partnership with Carntyne on the design and specification allowed us to create a trailer which met the specific needs of our product," confirms Roger Triscott, Nampak's head of supply chain and projects.

The LSTs are taking product from Nampak's manufacturing facilities in Bellshill and Newport Pagnell, servicing dairies in the north of Scotland and southern England.

The government's LST trial was launched in 2012 and involves a total allocation of 1,800 LSTs of 14.6m and 15.65m in length.
