Carrier fridges join Virginia International Logistics fleet05 June 2013

Virginia International Logistics has added eight Vector 1950 MT (multi-temperature) refrigeration units to its fleet to transport perishables from its depot in County Cavan, Republic of Ireland to the UK and mainland Europe.

Supplied by Dublin-based Technical Support Services (TSS), the Carrier Transicold Vector 1950 units are mounted to tri-axle Gray & Adams trailers and join a fleet of 80 trucks and 300 trailers.

Launched in 2012, the 1950 MT is claimed to offer a 4% increase in refrigeration capacity, while its condenser is smaller and lighter, providing improved efficiency.

Carrier says this ensures faster pull-down and the ability to haul cool-chain larger loads over long distances. Equally, its use of microchannel coils also cuts fridge fuel consumption by 10%, while also enabling a compact design that results in a 17% reduction in the unit's refrigerant charge.

The units are equipped with Carrier's E-Drive all-electric technology, which removes mechanical transmissions found in belt-driven systems and transforms engine power into electricity through a generator.
