Cemex upgrades fleet with 30 DAF tractors18 March 2014
Cement and ready-mixed concrete supplier Cemex is upgrading 30 vehicles in its distribution fleet with DAF CF85 460 Euro 5 tractor units.
Supplied by Burnt Tree – which has also provided 7.5-tonne trucks for Cemex's paving division – the Space Cab tractor units are operating from 30 quarries and distribution depots, pulling tri-axle trailers.
Cemex put the deal out to tender and Burnt Tree secured the business as a result of competitive pricing and supply of its FleetForce real-time fleet management programme, according to Paul Clarke, logistics engineering manager.
"Burnt Tree was able to demonstrate its all-round supply capability, with a deal that fully met our stringent specification and delivery requirements," says Clarke.
The new tractors are expected to cover more than 100,000km a year each.
They are operating in Cemex's aggregate logistics fleet, which comprises over 200 vehicles including tractor units and tipping trailer combinations as well as 6- and 8-wheel rigids.
