CENEX chief exec to lead IRTE Conference 2014 08 September 2014

Robert Evans, chief executive of Cenex (the UK's first centre of excellence for low carbon and fuel cell technologies), is to deliver the keynote at this year's IRTE Conference on 17 September 2014, at the Hilton at St George's Park, Burton upon Trent.

Since Evans joined Cenex in 2005, he has overseen the development and delivery of a range of hybrid, electric, hydrogen and gas vehicles, and associated recharging and refuelling infrastructure projects.

Leading Cenex, he is at the centre of the Technology Strategy Board's ongoing two-year Low Carbon Trucks Demonstration trials, which involves operators including Argos, Brit European, DHL, Eddie Stobart, Howard Tenens, JB Wheaton, John Lewis, Lenham Storage, Muller Wiseman, Tesco, United Biscuits, Waitrose and Wincanton.

Evans – who is chair of the UK Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment Association (UK EVSE) and a member of the Automotive Council Technology Group – will examine the current and future for vehicle drivetrains, focusing on alternative fuels, including LNG/CNG (liquefied/compressed natural gas), biofuels and hydrogen, as well as multi-fuel diesel engines, gas engines, hybrids and electrics.

Other highlights at the event will include: an opening message from the new Secretary of State for Transport Claire Perry MP; and sessions on Euro 6 engine maintenance issues and solutions, selecting trucks to minimise total costs, and implications of the next EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval update.

This year's IRTE Conference will also include a staged public inquiry, presided over by Traffic Commissioner Kevin Rooney with cross examination by legal firm Backhouse Jones and evidence presented by DVSA vehicle examiners.

This is a unique opportunity to see exactly what goes on behind closed doors at a public inquiry and participants will have the chance to watch, listen and learn how to avoid stepping on the wrong side of the law. Delegates will also have the chance to take part in a Q&A session directly with experts experienced in the legal process.

Headline speakers include: Alastair Peoples, DVSA chief executive; Tyrone Lanaway, engineering manager of Langdon Industries; Tony Soper, principal engineer at Millbrook; Stephen Carroll from CENEX; Andrew Woodfall from Backhouse Jones; Trevor Fletcher, chairman of Hardstaff; and Stuart Nancollis, managing director of driver behaviour specialist Octave.

Also new for this year will be in-depth streams covering: legal/compliance; fuel-saving opportunities; and bus and coach challenges and technologies.

For the first time, delegates are also invited to a networking dinner the evening before, with entertainment provided by former Isuzu Trucks UK chief executive Nikki King OBE and ex-international football referee Graham Poll.

Delegates to this can also book a luxury stay at the Hilton, St George's Park. Places are limited, so click on the link below to avoid disappointment.

Sponsors of the IRTE Conference 2014 are: ExxonMobil, as well as Bullwell Trailer Solutions, Disc-Lock, FTA, Lloyd Morgan Group, Lytx, Motor Wheel Service Distribution, Pirelli, Prime Transport Solutions, R2C Online, Renault Trucks, Total-Sim and Valeo.
